Dealing With Lifestyle Changes - How to Keep a Positive Mental Attitude
Are you aware that what you think and speak will come to physical reality and manifest itself? This principle applies to every aspect of life, including your weight loss goals and lifestyle changes. When making lifestyle changes, it is imperative that you are positive about the transition to healthier behaviors.
You must not dread it and you must not doubt yourself, otherwise you are setting yourself up for sabotage. You must change the way that you think and feel about exercise and proper nutrition so that you that chances of adhering to the program are more favorable. When is the last time you've thought negatively about something new and actually stuck with it? Here are a few tips that will help you think positively about exercise and nutrition.
First thing you should consider is setting some goals for yourself. These goals must be specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time-based. Goals give you something to work toward; they are your endpoints. Goals are something that you want to work toward and give you a purpose to live a healthier lifestyle.
Many people fail at transitioning simply because they begin a weight management program blindly with no purpose or aim, or they are expected too much weight change too soon. Don't let this be you!
You should award and compliment yourself for a job well done. I don't mean the spa days and the chocolate dessert now and then. I'm talking about positive self-talk. Tell yourself that you're doing a great job or compliment yourself when you exercise at the gym 12 times a month or when you drop 2 pants sizes. It always feels good when someone else compliments you, but it's better when you recognize the improvements you have made yourself.
Keeping track of your thoughts, feelings, and accomplishments is necessary because you need to see in writing that you are improving. Are your blood pressure and cholesterol numbers improving? Are you having less mood swings? Have you dropped a pants size? Are you eating the proper foods in the right portions? These are factors you should track so that you can see that you are improving. These are your motivators.
Most importantly, you have to learn to re-structure negative thoughts into positive ones. You are what you think. Thoughts, whether they are positive or negative, will manifest themselves into physical reality eventually. So, with that being said, think positively about your weight management goals. Learn how to recognize those negative thoughts and change them to be more productive. It'll pay off in the long run!
So, when making lifestyle changes, not only do you have to adopt positive habits, but also positive thoughts. Whatever you think, you will eventually begin to believe and speak. This is when you become what you think. It's so important to think positively of yourself and your goals.
